Frequent flying
If your travels, especially by air, are often accompanied by tired, aching legs or severe swelling, this article will tell you how to look after your health and prepare your body for a long flight so that you feel comfortable in your passenger seat. Flight conditions, even in the most comfortable seats on the plane, affect the blood vessels. Sitting for a long time and lack of movement slow down blood flow in the veins and contribute to swelling and the pooling of blood. Passengers who have symptoms of lymphovenous insufficiency of the lower limbs (a feeling of heaviness, tiredness or fullness in the legs, pain, swelling) find long flights harder to tolerate.
Take note of these useful tips, so that varicose vein symptoms such as pain and heaviness in the legs trouble you less and the flight does not feel so long:
- Loose clothing and shoes will help make sitting in your seat during the flight more comfortable.
- Wear special compression hosiery on the plane – tights or knee-high socks – which help venous blood drain efficiently from the bottom upwards.
- Take care of yourself in advance! For problems with the leg veins, doctors often prescribe venotonics. One of the most frequently prescribed venotonics is Phlebodia 600*[1], which is manufactured in France. One tablet contains 600 mg of diosmin, which is the optimal daily dose for a venotonic effect [2]. Phlebodia 600 helps reduce the severity of the main symptoms of varicose veins: pain, swelling and heaviness in the legs. At the same time, a course of Phlebodia 600 usually lasts only 2 months, taking 1 tablet a day with a meal [3].
- Do leg exercises every 20–30 minutes to improve your circulation. While in your seat on the plane, change the position of your legs – for example, stretch them as far forward as possible – and be sure to walk around the cabin whenever you can.
All this is not only good for the health of your legs, but will also help pass the time on the journey. Happy, healthy flying! 1. Proxima YTD_2018 2. Thebault J.J., Dormard Y.
